Partnership for Democratic Resilience: “Echoes of Democracy” Project Launches

7 February 2026 | News

The Presidential Center Stevo Pendarovski is proud to announce the official kick-off of our latest regional initiative, "Echoes of Democracy: Western Balkan Political Messages and the Path Forward – A School for Young Professionals." This project, supported by the Open Society Foundations Western Balkans, marks a significant new chapter in our commitment to fostering regional cooperation and empowering the next generation of leaders.

Bridging the Past and Future

Designed for up to 25 highly motivated young professionals from across Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, this 12-month program will tackle the region’s most pressing democratic challenges. Through three intensive modules (April to June 2026), participants will explore:

  • Democratic Competences and the State of Civic Space.
  • EU Integration and the "chilling effect" on domestic reforms.
  • Geopolitics and Identity in the Western Balkans.

A First-of-its-Kind Innovation

At the heart of this cooperation is the development of the Digital Museum of Political Messages and Rhetoric. This innovative platform will serve as a living archive of political slogans, banners, and public rhetoric from regional elections and protests, allowing participants to analyze how communication shapes societal change and democratic progress.

Strengthening Regional Ties

"Echoes of Democracy" is more than a school; it is a platform for cross-border collaboration. By bringing together diverse voices from across the Western Balkans, we aim to build a robust network of professionals dedicated to a more inclusive, democratic, and Euro-Atlantic future for our region.

Expanding the Dialogue through Public Round Tables

In addition to the educational modules, the project will organize two public round tables on critical topics related to the school's core themes. These events are designed as open platforms for broader dialogue, facilitating direct engagement between participants, leading experts, civil society, and the general public. By addressing the most pressing issues facing the Western Balkans, these discussions will foster inclusive debate and shared insights to strengthen democratic practices across the region.
